This was one of the worst games I've ever seen from a refereeing team. I have seen my countryman Øvrebø gift Barcelona a Champions League final at the Bridge, but this hurt almost as much.
How terrible can a refereeing team be when firstly you disallow a goal because a defender backs into an attacker and falls flat on his belly, when secondly you fail to give a penalty against a defender that robs an attacker of a clear cut goal opportunity by jumping straight into his body without even looking at the ball and when thirdly you give a penalty to player that in fact steps on the leg of a defender that is trying to block a coming shot or cross and therefore slips? On top of this, where is the booking when Johnson kung-fu kicks Azpi? And for sake of argument, how did not Dean see Ramires slapping Larsson in the face 6 feet in front of him?
Where was the God damn line in this game? The disallowed goal of Terry and the failure of giving Ramires a penalty cannot co-exist in the very same game! Either you have to disallow Terry's goal and give Ramires a penalty for even rougher contact or you have to allow Terry's goal and not give Ramires a penalty because it wasn't enough contact. Either way we would and should have been up 2-1. The worst is that the only suspension after this game won't come on Dean, but on Ramires for stupidly slapping Larsson. Kudos to Poyet and his lads for the fighting spirit in this match, but it was not at their own hands they came away with three points last night.
It's been used many times since that night in 2009, but this is the first since then I can truly say: It's a f**king disgrace...
