I see this topic pushed around at many places. Ever since Sturridge went to Liverpool, he has been banging goals. Could he have done it at Chelsea and was never given a chance?
First of all, Chelsea's system of lone striker with 3 AMs behind is very different from Liverpool's where both Suarez and Sturridge are the focal points of attack. While at Chelsea 4-5 players are trying to score a goal, at Liverpool there are 2.
Second, Sturridge has a player like Suarez to couple with. The partnership often reaps it benefit
Third, he was selfish at Chelsea, you can't deny that. Even at Liverpool where of course constant game time has dampened the behavior, but still it showed in the Merseyside derby. People can say that he was selfish because he wasn't playing that much or wasn't getting the striker spot but as a professional I don't think that warrants that kind of behavior.
All things aside, is Sturridge adept for 4-2-3-1, is he strong enough, has that aerial ability to serve the purpose of front loneman? The reason I ask is Mourinho clearly thinks Torres & Ba are not adept to dynamic forward role he wants in his new Chelsea. Lukaku was let go because he was not ready for such responsibility. Samuel Eto'o is only stop-gap, his profile suits Chelsea but not the physicality. In my opinion, Chelsea need the physicality aspect too keeping in mind the 3 lightweight AMs we play behind the frontman,
