We've been hearing rumblings of Manchester United giving Wayne Rooney a new deal for some time now, and it seems as though the two sides have finally come to an agreement. Or, that is, United have finally caved to the forward's demands:
Rooney's contract is five and half years. All agreed. Confirmation later today #MUFC

Although his wages are undisclosed the figure being bandied around is £300,000 per week, which over the course of a five-and-a-half year deal amounts to almost £86 million. Granted, United were already committed to giving Rooney £20 million over the next year and a half, so the financial impact is a little less than the full amount on his contract, but this is still a lot of money to spend on a 28-year-old with a track record for inconsistency.
All of which is to say that no, Chelsea aren't going to buy Wayne Rooney. And neither is anyone else, for that matter. £300,000 a week -- just after making Juan Mata, who'd prefer to play in the same spot as Rooney, their record signing. If there's a plan at Old Trafford, it's quite a strange one.
