I was trying to work out why neither of these two got loaned out to Premier League clubs in that transfer window, when it occurred to me that (and this is based on the assumption they're training with the 1st team) perhaps Jose wants to work with them both for a longer (AKA up until lower league loan deadline) or up until January/next year. Especially in the case of McEachran, who I see as talented enough to play for most bottom half premier league sides, but lacking the personality it takes to break into the side and keep his place (again, big assumption, I don't know the guy but this is the vibe I get). Admittedly Chalobah doesn't fall into that category so much and I really struggle to see why he wasn't sent to a Palace or Hull, until at least January, a second cosy stint at Watford will no doubt do him good. Based on a complete lack of Mikel and Essien so far this season, is it not the slighest bit possible Jose wants to keep him around and ask him to compete to be Ramires' back up? We saw with Varane at Madrid that if he rates a player highly enough he will play them over a more senior alternate & he no doubt saw a lot of Chalobah's successful season at Watford last year.
Just throwing ideas around really but, especially in the case of Josh, I think Jose wanting to work with and have an influence on the player is perhaps a reason that they weren't rushed out on loan. I find it impossible to believe, as some are suggesting, that the club or anyone has lost faith in McEachran's ability.
Let me know what you think, and for the fun of it, what you'd do with them both (now that the window is closed)?
