Wednesday Football Open Thread

Laurence Griffiths

The Capital One Cup got so exciting last night, people were losing their shorts!

What makes it extra hilarious is that not even did the referee somehow fail to call a foul/penalty, but Helenius managed to shank his shot high despite not having full range of motion for his legs. Impressive.

Tonight's action should be almost equally as exciting, although possibly somewhat less revealing. The big one of course is Manchester United vs. Liverpool (Sky Sports 2, 19:45 BST; beIN Sports, 2:45pm EDT), but there are four others scheduled, all of them involving Premier League teams. The draw for the fourth round will immediately follow.

There are cup ties in Germany as well and if they're half as entertaining as last night's 1860 München vs. Dortmund match, then they're worth keeping an eye on as well. Meanwhile, France, Italy, and Spain are all holding a midweek league matchday for whatever reason.
