Everybody remembers in the 2004/2005 season where Jose Mourinho was bought in ( conicedentialy for the first time ) and we set the record for fewest goals conceded in a season? Right?
Well one of the main reasons for that was because of the way Jose would deploy his what I would call "anchor man"
Michael Essien was the last person I recall who played this role while Jose was still actually at the club, even thought at the time I was only about 8 or 9 years old I noticed the massive impact it had on the team when it came to the amount of goals we conceded.
During Jose's first spell at the club, Chelsea only conceded 67 BPL goals home and away, now I'm not saying this "anchor man" role was the main reasom ( even though it was ) and that it was applied every game because then inwould be lying but I can assure you majority of times it worked & it worked like new batteries in a controller.
Now I haven't got any video footage of it and as a fourteen year old I don't have a extensive memory too but I was able to draw on my iPhone exactly how the role was played by the selected member of the squad
Okay this may not be the greatest way to show you but currently it's the only way I can show you exactly what I mean. Now they way many teams attack and score goals (basically every team) is moving into space and exploiting gaps in the defence, the way the "anchor man" would play he would completely stop this by he himself filling the any gaps that had been made in the defence and in terms filling in as a "extra centre back"
Now with Jose playing 4-3-3 in our recent friendly games could he try to reinstate this tactic with the current Chelsea squad? Or has anyone noticed this happening already?
Van Ginkel was playing REALLY deep against Madrid and was literally winning all the tackles.
anyways I don't have much else to say at this moment in time but I think I have got my point out anyways so leave a comment and I will definitely reply and I'm up for some discussion & ps please don't be to harsh on me I'm only 14 :p
