Could Chelsea be changing formation?

With all the recent speculation regarding Chelsea's latest signing - Schurrle and Willian - many have questioned the clubs strategy in regards to accommodating all the attacking midfielders on the roster.

With Willian and Schurlle joining this Summer (Winter in Australia) the clubs creative midfielders are now at an all time high with Mata, De Bruyne, Hazard, Oscar, Moses and Piazon out on loan. Somewhat ironic considering a few years back youth and creative talent was considered a weakness of Chelsea.

On paper the addition of both of these players raised a few eyebrows, with many suggesting it could result in Victor Moses leaving on loan or the ridiculous rumour of Juan Mata, the clubs dual reigning club champion, leaving for pastures new.

However, such squad additions I believe could also mean a change in formation from the manager - or potentially a change back! Something Chelsea fans know all too well this season. With Mourinho favouring a 4-2-3-1 at Real Madrid and indeed at Chelsea at the early stages of this season, it is logical that we have all assumed that he will continue to run with this formation. Despite this I am never one to underestimate 'The Special One' and i wouldn't discount the potential that he has a few tricks up his sleave and may be considering a change back to the 4-3-3 formation that served him so well in his previous spell at Stamford Bridge.

Here's a quick look at how the team could potentially line-up in the 4-3-3 Formation.

Cech

Ivanovic Cahill Terry Cole

Ramires Essien Mata

De Bruyne Lukaku Hazard

With versatility being a strength amongst this current squad, I see several players switching between the wings and central midfield in this formation. Mata, Oscar, Schurrle, De Bruyne, Willian and Ramires even are all capable of playing throughout this formation. It would also utilize a key strength of Kevin De Bruynes which is his crossing, as well as Lukaku's aerial prowess from balls in.

This new formation provides a lot of flexibility as well as returning Chelsea to a system which they have been so successul in throughout recent history. Do you think there is any chance we will see the blues line up in this formation this year? Could this be a reason for the recent squad additions? Have your say in the comments below
