Or, to his friends, Rodrigo. Born in Rio de Janeiro on the sixth day of March, 1991. He's a Spanish under-23 international (Don't ask me why Spain have an U23 squad) who you may remember, started in the Europa League Final and had a brief and very unimpressive loan spell at Bolton in the 2010/11 season where he scored just one goal in seventeen matches. Don't let that scare you though because he was only nineteen at the time and he has vastly improved since then. He has been plying his trade in Portugal since he left the Reebok, at the Estadio de Luz, home to Benfica and has really picked up his game. The season after he left Bolton, he played forty-six games for Benfica (Including internationals) and scored, a very healthy, twenty-three goals and assisted five, scoring a goal every 107 minutes. While last season was slightly less impressive, he still managed to score eight-teen goals in forty-five games, assisting five. The numbers look decent and since he's only twenty-two, he will improve a lot but Chelsea aren't in a position where they can take chances and hope for the best. We need a striker that fits into what we're trying to do and how Mourinho wants play. It would help if he was a decent goal scorer as well. In terms of pricing, I believe it will be possible to get him for under 20 million pounds. So let's take a look at what that 20 million will give us:
As you can see in the video, he is a very tricky customer with pace to burn and an eye for goal, but more importantly, he does score scrappy goals as well. As you can see in the video, he scored a diving header, a couple scrappy goals and a few finishes inside the box so he's not just a show pony who scores solo efforts and screamers from outside the box. Another thing to bear in mind is that he measures at 182cm which is nearly 6 ft tall so he can score his fair share of headers and won't get muscled of the ball easily.
Don't worry, he is a striker, not a false nine though he can play as a false nine as he has got very good close-ball control and on either wing which gives us a lot of options. Not that we need it. He's a Mourinho sort of signing as well because, as you saw in the video, he works hard when not in position and is a decent tackler for a number 9. He can also work in tight spaces like I said which Mourinho is specifically looking for. Soooo... He's a young Spanish striker with a good international record, fifth-teen goals in six-teen u-21 matches last season, he's quick, tall, good finisher, good dribbler and left-footed if that helps. Sign him up!
