First I'd like to say thank you to anyone who commented on my first ever post earlier in the week for the support and I hope you enjoy this one.
Most of you guys probably read the title of this article with a raised eyebrow and stomach pains trying to hold back the laughter(Have to admit... I did as well when thinking about what to write), but just here me out here... I'm really not joking when I say that a world-class striker is less important than Mikel. I mean it. Yeah, I know Demba Ba isn't in amazing form, Fernando Torres is being... Fernando Torres and that relying on a 19 year old striker to lead the line of one of the best clubs in the world is risky at best but goals isn't really what we lack. Last season, Chelsea scored 72 goals, only Manchester United scored more. What we really lack is the ability to shut-up-shop and win from winning positions.
I'm gonna throw some numbers at you, numbers that frustrated me to no end. Chelsea drew or lost eight games in which they took the lead at some point in those matches. That's an equivalent of twenty-four points. Now I know you can't close out every match but let's say we closed out six of those eight matches, we would have gained eighteen points more which would have given us 90 points, that would have been more than United's 89 points and consequently won us the title by one point. Just winning two of them would have guaranteed us second-place over City by three points and considering that two of those matches were against Reading and Newcastle, second was easily achievable. So how do we close out more matches? John Obi Mikel says hello.
I know from comments sections on various articles that Mikel divides opinion but remember he is the only true anchor man in our squad and that there's no African Cup of Nations this year so he is here for the long run. If we play Mikel more, he gains a bit of confidence and Mourinho improves how we defend as a team, from last seasons numbers, the title is ours.
