The best thing about the Community Shield is that it means that the season is less than a week away!
One extra good thing about this year's edition is that Chelsea aren't in it, so we won't have to deal with the headache of getting spanked by Manchester City while watching new-boy Eden Hazard fail at backheels and old-bear Branislav Ivanovic collect red cards (but not suspensions!). A further good thing is that Wayne Rooney has been ruled with that mysterious shoulder injury, reducing the number of mentions that he'll be getting in this one by a decent percentage. I still expect him to dominate the narrative though.
So it's David Moyes's semi-competitive debut as Manchester United manager. No pressure now, but it's only Wigan, Moyesy and I doubt you'd want to [fun] this up. Kickoff is at the top of the hour (9am EDT) and it's live on Fox Soccer (USA), ITV (UK), and Star Sports (India).
If you stick around afterwards, you can catch most of Chelsea B away to RKC Waalwijk (10:30am EDT; LiveSport) and watch the big Fla-Flu grudge match in Brazil (3pm EDT; Gol TV). With both teams just above the relegation zone in Brazil's Serie A, there should be an added bit of desperation in this one, too. Plus, FRED!
