Quick little thought pattern (...fantasy)
There is lots of noise of Cavani to heading to Paris (although apparently he has signed with every other club in the past few weeks), which would essentially hint that Ibrahimovic has one foot out the door.
At the age of 31 he would be around 15m euro's with a hefty wage bill following him. While the club might baulk at his wages, Mino Raiola is known to 'make the impossible happen'.
Our current strikers are average while Ibrahimovic has been regarded as the darling of Europe over the past few seasons. Scores when he wants, win when he wants, does what he wants.
Many people among the WAGNH board are saying to 'give Lukaku a chance' and 'don't risk the big money signing'. My take on this is pretty clear - Lukaku is a young lad who will get plenty of minutes here, but for me having him as our lead striker this season is just as risky/even more risky as sinking money into a top level striker. A few people are disregarding the fact that Lukaku had a huge impact coming off the bench, even if he didn't score he was threatening and destroyed tired legs with his pace and power. However, during the game, while he made so many chances for himself, he sometime's wasn't composed in front of goal and had a few Demba Ba-esque moments where he couldn't put the game to bed (notice I didn't use Torres because he never makes chances for himself).
I don't think there is an element of risk with Ibrahimovic, he's done just about everything anywhere under a handful of different managers with different players and different systems.
I don't know how long Ibrahimovic would stay here. I don't know his current relationship with Jose. I don't know if the club could afford him at the present moment in time. I don't know if Torres is leaving or staying. Would you rather have Cavani? Assuming the club could afford Ibrahimovic, would you want to see him living in London and donning the blue of Chelsea? As a fellow Swede (inb4 bias), my answer is yes, he is a joy to watch while consistent goals are guaranteed.
Let me know what you think below and answer the poll if you can be bothered.
edit; as for potential salary (since we are accountants and love talking about peoples income), wouldn't he be on the equivalent of Torres right now after tax is taken into account? His potential salary is super high but he gets taxed 75%, so after all is done isn't he roughly on the same amount Torres is on? Anyone keen to elaborate?
