Most Chelsea fans agree that an elite goalscorer needs to be brought in this summer in order to really compete with the best teams in the world. Names like Cavani, Lewandowski, Gomez, and even Dzeko have all been mentioned on WAGNH; however, I am here to shine some light on a player that few are talking about. Ivory Coast international Seydou Doumbia may be european footballs best kept secret. For those that are unfamiliar with the striker currently playing in Russia for CSKA Moscow, this article written back in January over on Cartilagefreecaptain can do him more justice than I ever could.

Still only 25, Seydou fits in pretty well with the youth movement at Chelsea. Although he is of average height(5'10), his aerial ability is exceptional and he scores regularly with his head. He is quite strong for his size and his hold up play is also quite good, even in a relatively physical league. Where he really stands out though, is his blinding pace. On Chelsea he would immediately be one of the fastest players in the Premier League, and would make for arguably one of the fastest tandems in the world when paired with Hazard. This would be especially useful on the counter-attack.(Mourinho seemed to favor a counter-attacking set up quite often in the past)

Surely, Doumbia is a physical specimen, but can he score goals? I'll just let the stats do the talking. Here are the highest scoring seasons of some of the other commonly mentioned strikers.
Robert Lewandowski (12/13) - 38 Goals 11 Assists
Edinson Cavani (12/13) - 40 Goals 3 Assists
Mario Gomez (11/12) - 47 Goals 6 Assists
Edin Dzeko (12/13) - 22 Goals 6 Assists
Romelu Lukaku (12/13) - 17 Goals 4 Assists
Seydou Doumbia (11/12) - 37 Goals 11 Assists
As you can see, the Doo Doo man is quite capable of scoring plenty of goals. His positioning often puts him in many goalscoring opportunities and he can poach goals from anywhere inside the box. His technical ability is good, able to easily glide past out-of-position CBs or keep the ball at his feet in traffic.
Here is video of some of his finer work:
The reason he that he has flown so far under the radar...injuries. Suffering from a back injury, he missed almost all of the 12/13 season, only playing in a handful of games and scoring only 3 goals. Prior to his 37 goal 11/12 season, he missed significant time again, although he managed to keep a very good goals/game ratio. From 08/10 he played for BSC Young Boys in the swiss league and scored 50+ goals in two seasons. Although he has had multiple seasons with 30+ goals, it was not in one of europe's top leagues, and therefore is slightly unproven at the highest level.
Coming off a season in which CSKA won the league without his services, it would seem very plausible that they could sell if the right offer came along. He is under contract until 2015 and the club is probably not pressed to sell him. That being said, I am sure Chelsea could offer him more than his current club is giving him in wages. If the player wanted to go, and the club received a reasonable offer for a player that is surplus to requirements, this deal could be wrapped up fairly easily. The price wouldnt be anywhere near what a player like Cavani would cost, and therefore would leave Chelsea with plenty of wiggle room to purchase other players. Likely price between 16 - 22 mil
What does the community think? Would he be a smart buy? Is he too injury prone? Not a good fit? Plan C?
