Crazy would often come to mind when discussing the lovable David Luiz. Despite being one of the most talented players in world football, his bizarre antics and flamboyant personality make him a love/hate character at the bridge. Regardless of his flaws, nobody could deny that he possesses the talent to captain Chelsea, should we find a role that he could play...
Center Back - (5.5/10) He has his moments in center back. He has a great header and has the pace to make up for his mistakes. But every ten minutes, he has a moment of madness where he takes a 40m attacking run, loses possession and the Chelsea back line are charging back due to being violently countered. Not a risk worth taking
Defensive Midfield (7/10) Still not perfect but has more chance to impact our game attacking wise without being a huge defensive liability. We have seen a dramatic boost in his goalscoring chances with him scoring several world class finishes. However, 7/10 is not something we should expect out of arguably the most naturally talented young defensive player in the world (Assuming that most young defensive prodigies perform due to their never give up attitude).
So I thought, what position:
- Allows for a player to orchestrate a quick counter attack
- Allows a player to make attacking moves then track back
- Allows a player to cross and play through balls
- Allows a player to defend and use their physical ability when the defense is trapped in
- Has little/no depth (In several years time) - Sorry Bertrand/Van Aanholt
Have you figured it out yet... LEFT BACK!
Now this may work (weirdly enough). I based him around the template of Ashley Cole. Ashley Cole succeeds because he is an attacking threat, can track back with his speed and can help out in defense with interceptions. Luiz can do all of that better.
He would be the perfect man to partner Eden Hazard on the left... Imagine in a few years time
RAM: De Bruyne/Oscar
So what do you guys think?
