"Major League Soccer Commissioner Don Garber announced today that a partnership of global sports powers, Manchester City Football Club and the New York Yankees, has acquired the League's 20th expansion club. The new team will be named New York City Football Club (NYCFC) and expects to begin play in 2015." Though there already exists a relationship between City and the Yankees through Legends Hospitality, LLC (an international entertainment, hospitality and marketing organization), which clearly helped facilitate this venture, has Chelsea FC missed an opportunity to build on its presence in the United States? For me, and my admittedly narrow perspective of football in America, City fall well behind Man Utd., Arsenal, Chelsea and even Liverpool, in terms of the number Americans supporting an EPL club. In that sense those clubs would have had an advantage over City in an effort to build an MLS franchise from the ground up.
