Five Chelsea players have been named to the Belgian national team for their upcoming matches against the United States and Serbia. Thibaut Courtois, Kevin De Bruyne, Eden Hazard, Thorgan Hazard, and Romelu Lukaku have all been named by Marc Wilmots for the May 29 and June 5 games. The callup is the first for the younger Hazard brother, the full squad is as follows:
While 4 of the 5 are regulars and will likely all be involved in the World Cup Qualifier against Serbia, the inclusion of the younger Hazard is probably a bit of a surprise. He's had a sensational season, but will probably have his work cut out for him to make the 18-man squad for the World Cup qualifier.
It's also interesting to note he's listed as a midfielder. He's played deeper this season than wither of Eden or De Bruyne, but I'd still certainly call him a forward. He does have a skillset that would lead me to believe he could play deeper though, so it will be fun to see what Wilmots does with him if he ends up on the pitch.
Regardless, it's good to see some of Chelsea's youngsters getting recognized for their fantastic work on loan this year. Hopefully we'll be seeing all five Belgians involved with the Chelsea first team this summer.
