Shoutout to the Real Chelsea Fans
As I've said before: Being a Chelsea fan is hard. We have to put up with a lot of crap for supporting the team from SW6.
And it doesn't make it any easier with the season we're having. But if there's one positive to be taken from this mishap of a season and its the fact that we now realize who the true Chelsea fans are. In such a tumultuous time at the Bridge, we've seen none of the "plasticity" that the Chelsea-slamming media loves to label us with. We have witnessed the true loyalty and dignity that comes with being a true fan who's love for a club has been unrivaled.
And if there was ever a time when the bandwagon would open up, the beginning of this season would've been it. Champions of Europe? Cech. FA Cup Champions for the 3rd time in 4 years? Cech. Cinderella story of club legend turned greatest caretaker manager of all time? Cech. Couple that with exciting signings and this made for a very enticing situation to be a fan of this team. I don't have to tell you what has happened this season, but I can tell you that these bandwagon fans aren't here anymore and let me tell you something: I like it. I love having oceans of blue jerseys screaming ONE DI MATTEO until their throats bleed alongside me. I love having fans that take this season as the bump in the road that it is, and look forward to a brighter day soon to come. I hope y'all have your shades, cuz its gonna get bright in West London. And I love having players like Lampard, Terry, Luiz, Lukaku (though he's not with us right now), etc. who are willing to crash and burn with the club so that we can rise proudly from the ashes like a phoenix. But this one here is for the fans.
The media mocked us and said that we should support Benitez and that our hatred of him was immature. I've even heard some Chelsea fans saying that we should stop singing One Di Matteo because its not allowing Benitez to do his job. If he can't perform under pressure (and he hasn't shown that he can) then he is not fit for our club and will rightly be unseated when the time comes. But I believe we should keep singing and long after we have a manager fit for the position. Because that will show that no matter what successes come our way hopefully sooner but perhaps later, that these fans will not sit idly by while the club does not return our love, loyalty, and support. Thanks Chelsea fans, here's to you!
EDIT: I wrote this months ago, but was waiting for the right time to publish it. Add to that I almost forgot about it but I figured now would be a great time to share it with you guys. Since then, we are now poised to continue our reign as Champions of Europe (sic), have locked up a Champions League spot for next season (and possibly a certain #8), and the Special One's sweet coo seems to get stronger and stronger by the day. Obviously the Europa League wasn't where we wanted to end up, but its still a good achievement that we still might get a European trophy despite not being in the Champions League anymore. Add to that we could become only the fourth club (behind Ajax, Juventus, and Bayern Munich) to win the Champions League, Europa League, and Cup Winner's Cup, makes me proud for the club. Here's to the Blues, but more importantly, here's to the fans!
