Rooney to Chelsea: Brilliant

It's obvious we are desperate for a striker, one that is capable of scoring 20+ goals a season. We have not had that since the Drogba + Anelka tandem (oh how I miss the +71 goal difference days). We have been linked with Wayne Rooney, who has been confirmed to have put in a transfer request by SAF himself. Rooney would be a goal scoring catalyst for Chelsea. We've been in desperate need of a striker that will guarantee goals day in and day out.

First, let's look at what Rooney has done with United:

Plain and simple, United has been better with Rooney. With Rooney starting, they won an average of 72% of those games over the past 9 years. I don't want to even see the Torres percentage. Nearly proof enough that Rooney would be a massive help to the Blues.

If you aren't satisfied with that, take on this little trend:

08-09: 12 goals

09-10: 26 goals

10-11: 11 goals

11-12: 27 goals

12-13: 12 goals

Next year Rooney will be bound to have 20+ goals if the trend continues. Perfect time to buy him this summer.

As for compatibility, I believe we need a striker that can hold up the ball and keep it under control. We play the ball to Torres like we did to Drogba, and honestly he cannot keep the ball like the might Drogba could. Rooney would be much better at holding the ball, muscling people off the ball, and waiting for Hazard, Mata, and Oscar to join for support. With those three attacking midfielders, Rooney could be the perfect addition to the squad.

I know that, yes, we have Ba, Torres, and Lukaku available. Ba has not been consistent, although we haven't given him enough time to make a true assessment. Torres has had a decent season with 20 goals in all competitions, but only 7 goals in the league. As for Lukaku, it has been rumoured that he will be loaned out to a club that will have Champions League football next season (I'm not sure how certain that is). If Lukaku is gone, our only striker that can hold up the ball, then I would say that Rooney is a must buy. There will always be speculation of other strikers for purchase, but Rooney's price tag will not compare to that of Lewandowski or Falcao in my opinion.

What do you all think of Rooney as an addition?
