This is the story of a player Chelsea signed during a summer, not far from now. We had all heard about the impending signing and had our hopes up concerning this player and the upcoming season with the other attacking players added.
His story at Chelsea started probably as expected with a lot of time on the bench and some reserve games too. When he finally had his chance to show us his real worth… well we started to wonder what his "real worth" was. Of course he looked rusty and lost since he hadn't played in a while and training probably isn't enough to have an understanding with your team mates.
And so back to the bench and the reserve team he was. We all started to find excuses for him including the traditional : he has to adapt to our league.
With some of his team mates flourishing, including some arrived the same window as he did, things started to look even darker for him. With the departure of a player directly in concurrence for position in the december window, he would have been forgiven for thinking he would see regular playing time, specially as there was a new coach coming up.
Said regular playing time never came and he didn't impress in the few chances he was given. So everyone lost hope for him and started crying out for another signing to replace him, as he was mostly useless.
This is Marko Marin, but Lukaku had the same story during his first year at Chelsea. He went on loan this season and has been awesome in that time hitting the net 13 times in the Premiere league, and most (me included) would be happy with him leading our line next year.
Everyone should just keep on believing in him until he has had a real chance with regular playing time.
