Wouldn't this be fun?
As I'm sure you can tell the two teams have been set up on a regional basis. The Welsh teams, the London teams and Southampton make up the pool of available players for the Southern All-Stars. The remaining 11 teams are all situated way up in the uncivilized north, like your Manchesters and what have you. It is their players that the Northern All-Stars consist of.
The idea of a Premier League All-Star game comes from a very talented graphic designer (whose allegiance, unfortunately, lies with Liverpool). Check out his website why don't you, his name is Dave Williams. I learned about it through this Guardian feature, which is also the source of all the lovely images I have used here. Dave's elaborate idea is that we, the fans, vote for our favorite players by texting. Like so:
This is of course just an idea, so don't go wasting your phone credit just because he picked such a lovely picture of our very own special Juan.
Seeing as we've got so much time on our hands with this insipid international break (NOOOOOOOO!!!), I figure we could spark up some debate here as to which players should make the teams. My own two cents are presented above. Not very defensively inclined teams, but that's hardly the idea of an all-star game is it. Fun, is the idea. And goals are fun. Also, all-star games tend to see a lot of players used - the reason behind my benches being complete 11s. Also, when picking the players I considered their form to some extent rather than just reputation.
