Well that was frustrating! Chelsea are appearing to be a jekyll and hyde side at the momment. This result shows why Rafa cannot be the manager next season due to the toxic atmosphere at the Bridge. I can accept that Chelsea in this point in time are in a state of transition but Chelsea's
differing form home and away is both staggering and concerning. In terms of wahat the result means 3rd place is now our priority in the league its looking more likely that we will be caught up by spurs than climb above city, and while 3rd place is significantly better than 6th last season I do believe we are slipping away from the two Manchester clubs in terms of challenging for the title next year. I don't think you will find a title winning side win titles with as poor a home form as us at the momment and until Stamford Bridge is a fortress again I cannot see Chelsea seriously challenging City and Utd. I think also the reaction to Torres coming on sums up what I mean.
In terms of the game itself I was happy with the squad selected Ba has been significntly better that Torres and deserves to play and so far is looking a bargain. I was also happy to see Oscar play I believe he has impressed the last few games and should be given a run in the side over Mata and Hazard.
The most annoying thing I found from the game was the Bench for the game Turnbull, Ferreira, Terry, Ivanovic and Bertrand. 5 defenders out of 7 substitutes is rediculous now that the manager use that to impact the game in an ideal would you would to have a goal keeper and two defenders but the bench tonight highlighted a certain lack of squad depth. The other two substitutes were Marin and Torres. While I can understand why Torres was brought on and the timing the team is drawing throw on another striker and go all out. Marin's continual rejection is baffiling though to be honest. I honestly think the 'three amigoes' as their know cannot play together. This is becuase they get too narrow and everything comes down the middle, which why Rafa went with Moses instead of Oscar one of the best changes he's made (along with Luiz to midfield), ad now that Moses has left ACON we have fallen into the same problems we were having around Robbie's unfair sacking. Marin for me offers an alternative with natural width something Chelsea are lacking and with Ba upfront we have a physical presense with a main strength of aerial ability. While Hazard sometimes crosses (not the best though) Mata and Oscar never. Through the breif glimpes I've seen of Marin he looks good enough for Chelsea (even if he may not be as good as the amigos). He is constantly on the move supports the full backs, skillfull and is a great crosser. I believe he would compliment Ba's style of play other the other 3. Which makes his snub when Chelsea needed a plan B today all the more surprsing. Mikels absence has also been highlighted and I beleive he is our most inportant midfielder (not including attacking midfielders) and the only midfielder who should start every match. This is due to the system we play we have a defensive midfielder and a deep lying one. While Lampard, Ramires and Luiz have all played well in the Deep lying role none of them have been convincing playing Mikel's role (I am not including Romeu due to his injury and I am not convinced yet by him)as they all aren't strict enough to stay and not attack.
my team would be:
Ivanovic - Cahill - Luiz - Cole
Ramires - Lampard
Marin - Mata - Hazard
However I think Rafa will go with Torres which makes no sense when you are up against a team who are weak against big stikers. I'd play Marin in order for width and crosses and Ivanovic due to experience in big games and better defensively than Dave. I also don't believe Terry will be 100% yet and is not an ideal game to throw him back into.
In terms of the rest of the transfer window I beleive Chelsea need another Striker (short term). While I am a big Fellani fan I would not get him this window with Terry's return and Mikel back from the ACON I think we will be fine for the rest of the season, but he is a must for the summer. Breifly I like to talk about Lukaku and Courtois who have come out in their own way in distancing themselves from Chelsea. I beleive Lukaku is ready to play for Chelsea and I would have him recalled but not to placed on the bench. If Chelsea sign Falcao in the summer I worry for Lukaku as don't believe another seaon loan will be beneficial. On the other hand Courtois needs to leave Madrid at the end of this season. I don't beleive another ploan to Spain would help and if he cannot budge Cech (which I don't believe with happen next season) should be loaned out to a premier league side to experience the league. However while to would come to as a top keeper I don't think he could get into a side aceiving what Madrid have. I would personally like him to go to loan at Liverpool
. I beleiev Reina's on the decline and he could establish himself there and also have Reina as a role model also whiel Liverpool may not challenge for top spots he would have the pressure of playing for a big club and also get to play in the Man u Livepool derby.
