With the England Squad being named today for the World cup qualifiers later this year Chelsea are the club who should be most proud of the squad. No less than SIX Chelsea players have been named as part of the England set up, with Ashley Cole, Gary Cahill, John Terry and Ryan Bertrand in defence.
Frank Lampard and Danny Sturridge have been named higher up the pitch, which is a great achievement by the blues. I have a feeling this will of course cause a media storm despite the fact that Terry was removed as captain due to the criminal case, which he has since been ***proven/found*** innocent.
***I have a feeling found will be the word used more often, because it implies that he was not innocent, and to the public makes them dislike Terry that little bit more for getting away with it.
The England squad could be over half Chelsea come the game, which would be some achievement. Well done to the lads, and long may It continue. Also I would like to point out a strong English core of the team (formerly Cole, Terry and Lampard) is now being overtaken by Bertrand, Cahill and Sturridge is a great thing for Chelsea FC. Having a strong English base is something we should aspire to have, and is a good thing for the game.
This is a strong indicator of our good start to the season, and shows a continuing growth in the Chelsea squad that our older players are slowly being replaced even internationally. As a fan post I feel I should throw the question out there, who should be England captain? I personally would pick JT, because he was found innocent, and because I don’t pick my captain based around how nice they are, they are picked because they are the right man for the job on the pitch.
If you’re only going to pick Angels then for me Gerrard has to be out because he was put on trial for assault in a nightclub, and he too was found innocent by a jury. For me the two should be considered completely equal either both are eligible or neither is. In my opinion Terry is the better leader of the two and should be captain if available to be.
