While the Blues' transfer season has seemly come to an end, I thought it'd be fun to view Chelsea FC's current depth chart; for no other reason than I thought it'd be interesting to see (and concoct).
I have created a three player depth chard at each position, using only a player's primary position. Understanding that most players have at least some amount of versatility and many play multiple positions (and technically everyone could play them all, to varying degrees of success), I decided it was less complicated and less monotonous to do it this way.
I have also included first team loanees in parenthesis next to their respective preferred positions.
Let's have a look:
GK: P. Cech. H. Hilario, R. Turnbull (T. Courtois)
RB: B. Ivanovic, C. Azpilicueta, P. Ferreira
CB: J. Terry, D. Luiz, G. Cahill (J. Bruma, S. Hutchinson)
LB: A, Cole, R. Bertrand, G. Saville (P. Van Aanholt)
DM: J. Mikel, M. Essien, O. Romeu
CM: F. Lampard, R. Meireles, Oscar (J. McEachran)
AM: E. Hazard, Y. Benayoun, G. Kakuta (K. De Bruyne)
RW: Ramires, V. Moses, *
LW: J. Mata, M. Marin, F. Malouda
ST: F. Torres, D. Sturridge, L. Piazon (R. Lukaku)
* = No 3rd right winger. There are a number of guys who can play there, and some would argue it's Sturridge's primary position, but I decided rather than choosing a youth player (Todd Kane, perhaps) to simply make up the numbers, I just left it as is.
I also thought about including more of the Chelsea Reserves and Academy players, but I figured I would leave that to someone with a little more knowledge of those levels than I; also figuring that at that stage in their development positions aren't really all that stringent, important, or permanent.
Enjoy.
