Guess what. Robert Lewandowski is as cheap as £35Million now. According to the Daily Mail, that is.
Did the £ Pound loose it's value recently? Was there any inflation that we didn't know about? From a rumored £13-17Million asking price, it has more than doubled to £35Million.
Well at least, there is a quote this time, in the Daily Mail report.
His representative Maik Barthel said: ‘A £13m transfer fee is not suitable.’
As far as I know, Lewandowski has a contract that runs up until 2014. In May, there were rumors about a contract renewal for Lewandowski. His agent, Maik Barthel had then stated that, the terms offered by Borussia Dortmund were unsatisfactory.
Some reports had linked him to Manchester United back then and during the Euros. However, Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke had made it clear, at that time, that Lewandowski will be retained at all costs. Dortmund have already lost Kagawa to United. Kagawa was also invloved in contract renewal talks a couple of months prior to his transfer.
If I had to take a wild guess, Lewandowski to Chelsea, is heading in the same direction as, Cavani to Chelsea.
Smart Cunning agents, using Chelsea's interest in a player, as a leverage for their players' contract negotiations.
Or, Daily Mail may have felt left out by Harry Harris. ESPN 'sources' did 'break' the Lewandowski to Chelsea news, first. Got one back, the Daily Mail.
As good a player Lewandowski is, £35Million is a mind boggling figure.
