I don't think that anybody could argue that we have a very difficult situation in what to do with Daniel Sturridge. There is no doubting that he has a lot of potential but I also feel that he is a potential time bomb waiting to blow as well. It is clear that he will not be happy with a role out on the wing. He made that clear very early in the season, which I think is a bit premature from him considering that he had not even played a full season for us in the first team.
My suggestion would be to sell him back to City, who have already shown a real interest for cash + Adam Johnson. We already owe 15% of any potential transfer fee back to City. I think that there is high chance that he will turn out to be a bit of a primadona. I feel that he is a player in a similar mold to Balotelli. Both are very talented but is I feel that they are both going to be negative influences on the dressing room when they are not performing well.
Sturridge has been rumored to be worth around 20 million pounds. If we could receive a fee like 15 million + Adam Johnson, then we would be laughing all the way to the bank. I remember reading a little while back (maybe in the winter) that Johnson was available for something like 7 million. His wages would be probably be very low and we would still be retaining one 'Home grown' player.
I am more excited about the potential that Lukaku shows and would prefer to let Sturridge go this summer, which would allow Lukaku some more breathing room in the team this year or possibly next year if he is not loaded this season. Also the potential signing of Schurrle would be superior to Sturridge as well. He would play a similar role but again without the drama, for less pay and showing more potential already, in my opinion.
What do you think?
