We talked about Marouane Fellaini the other night, and today the towering Belgian midfielder chimed in with some comments concerning the possibility of a transfer away from Everton. Here's some highlights of what he had to say on Belgian radio:
I am ambitious, I want to play in the Champions League or in the Europa League. Last season we finished seventh with Everton, and we were not able to qualify us for Europe, which was a shame. If an ambitious club comes in for me? Why not, just to gain experience. But I’m on vacation right now, I do not give it too much attention. Every year they say I’ll be transferred to the left or right. But I’m still at Everton. If it comes, I take, if it does not come, I stay at Everton, where I am happy, and where I still have a four-year contract.
There really isn't too much to take from that other than the fact that he'd welcome a move to a Champions League club. We were all aware that Chelsea now have a lot of Belgians, and it's also good to know that Fellaini gets along with all of them. I'd imagine that's a far more minor factor in any potential move than Chelsea's level of competition, something which appears to be of some importance to Marouane.
This also seems to confirm that we've yet to bid on Fellaini, or that if we have it's in the very early stages of negotiation. Either way, Fellaini looks to be a guy to keep an eye on, as these comments do tend to suggest he'd welcome a move to Chelsea. I suppose most players would welcome a move to the defending European Champions though, as there isn't a better title to hold in the world of club soccer.
