Modric, an absolutely brilliant midfielder, arguably the best midfielder in the premier league, is being chased by Chelsea, where he'll be a guarenteed starter alongside John Obi Mikel, buuut, as he's a controller of the midfield, I think that he could play alongside Lampard in the pivot, which would be successful with such an attacking squad of HULK, Hazard, and Mata. How would this work? Well what Chelsea desperately need is a controller of the midfield, so we can link the defence and the attack, Modric fits the bill. He doesn't get a lot of goals or assists, but makes the team around him have better stats. Lampard has fantastic stats, and actually was second in contributions this year, behind Chelsea's player of the year Mata. So I think that a double pivot relationship between those two would be very effective.
Also when Lampard and Mikel you always know Lampsie will charge forward. With Modric and Lampard it could give us a different dimention to our attack, as the defenders wouldn't know whether Lampard would bomb forward and Modric would defend, or Modric would bomb forward and Lampard would defend.
The downside to this pivot? the defensive side. Lampard and Modric are both very underrated defenders, but their both still offensive minded players, and we wouldn't have a destroyer in the double pivot. Still with the signings of HULK and Hazard, offense will probably be the best defense, so I could definately seeing this pivot working, and we have Mikel in for cover. If we were to buy Modric and I was the manager, this would be my pivot (with the current signing) and if its a total disaster Mikel's there for defensive help.
P.S. this is only my second post, criticism is welcome, as long as it's constructive, and I would like to know your opinion on the pivot, and which midfielder we should sign.
With these two in the pivot I would play a 4-2-3-1 with
Ivan- Luiz- Terry- Cole
HULK- Mata- Hazard
