The Sun might be utter bile, but in this exclusive JT interview he sheds some light on the red card as well as touching on the FA Cup final, England and AVB situation.

I must admit that I did not see these incidents and don't even recall the first leg having a lot of confrontations between them, but if true it helps understand (but not justify) his rush of blood to the head...
