Well I don't know that was pretty bad you guys. It shouldn't have been, of course - although West Bromwich Albion had a lot of the possession Chelsea had the better of the chances right up until Gareth McAuley scored off the corner. Daniel Sturridge is by and large to blame for the loss, with the England striker spurning two absolutely gilt-edged opportunities before finally getting yanked off the pitch by an exasperated Andre Villas-Boas.
The performance from Sturridge's teammates wasn't much better though. The only player who was really anything special was Michael Essien. Didier Drogba impressed in flashes, Juan Mata had another poor game - when was the last time he played well? - Frank Lampard was statuesque and the defence looked incredible shaky. Villas-Boas tried shaking things up, going to a 4-2-3-1 and then a 4-4-2 diamond, even throwing Fernando Torres on, but nothing worked. I don't even know what shape they ended the match in. Possibly 'bad'.
The result, was worse than the performance. We're now three points back of Arsenal in 4th place, and if we don't come back into this we only have ourselves to blame. Yes, West Brom are much better than people think, and they're on a superb run right now so I wasn't expecting that much, but this is a game we had to get three points from. Instead, we got zero in a 1-0 loss.
I'd really like this season to be over. In many ways, it already is.
