AVB might be buying a lot of good young talent and building a team for the future, but if he doesn’t turn his mind to the present, he will get sacked long before he reaps the benefit of them. No matter what promises Roman made him, if he doesn’t he wins some trophies or at least comes 2nd in the league in this season (clearly not happening) or the next I reckon he is out, and that is way before Lukaku, De Bruyne, Courtois, Bamford, Piazon, Davila, Feruz and all the other youngins he bought will become proper first team players.
Chelsea has become Arsenal – a team whose manager is so focused on the future he doesn’t see what’s going on in the present. We spend money and time chasing 18 year old boys which will only be ready in a couple of years, whilst our current first team squad is lagging behind the two Manchester clubs and even Tottenham.
Tottenham’s midfielders are Parker, Modric and Van der Vaart…with Bale and Lennon as wingers. I don’t know if one of our players would start over any of theirs (maybe Danny over Lennon) – how did we let this happen??. Do we really want to be like Arsenal and their clown Wenger, saying for 7 years now “we’re building a team. We got a whole bunch of amazing young players and we’re gonna show you in three years!” – in reality they’ve gotten 0 trophies in 7 years and it clearly doesn’t work if you don’t keep your current team in a good condition.
Considering the shaky present state of the team, the De Bruyne buy (with the loan for this season and even the next apparently) is absolutely delusional. Even if our team is fully fit and present, our only wingers off the bench are Malouda and Kalou. Malouda is so atrocious I don’t ever want to see him enter the field, and Kalou isn’t that good either. He’s also injured now. This means were completely reliant on our starting team, which isn’t breaking down opponents too easily either. In the last 8 games, we’ve scored only 1 goal a match bar the game against Wolves…and our opponents included Wigan, Fulham, Villa, Sunderland, Norwich and Swansea. Their defenses looked like superstars playing against us. In short, we need some attacking options NOW.
This season is a monstrosity and nothing else. Before this season started I would have been heavily disappointed with anything but a top 2 finish, and now it seems farfetched for us to come 3rd. Don’t tell me that we were in a worse place at a later time with Carlo last season (in fact, at this time last season we 5th yes, but we had 2 games in hand and only 5 points from 3rd...so 5th with the potential to be 3rd). Besides, Carlo is an experienced and hardened manager who has won a multitude of trophies and knows how to handle these situations. We are now led by someone with only one year of experience (not even in a top league), 12 points behind first place, and 7 points behind 3rd place, and in my opinion, all of the teams above us definitely have better squads, and with more depth too. It was AVB’s responsibility to ensure our squad is strengthened this season considering it proved inadequate last season and several key players are declining rapidly (Drogba, Anelka, Malouda, Anelka, Lampard). The first part of the season illustrated that the reinforcements brought in were not enough, and that the strengthening done by City and Tottenham put them high above us. This means that serious reinforcements should be brought in, especially considering the exit of Alex and Anelka. Instead, we bought only one first team player in the window - Gary Cahill (which technically, is just a replacement for Alex). We’re gonna need a lot more than that to get back into the Chelsea of the days of old, rather than the disgusting excuse for a team were seeing now.
For those who think buying players isn't the answer and the squad IS good enough - well then, something must be done about the formation, or something! Clearly, things as they are, are simply not working. Please, do not tell me I am overreacting - i have the complete right to freak out when we are all hoping to finish 4th.
