Bumped into Nathaniel Chalobah in a Newcastle nightclub

So this all started on Saturday morning as we boarded the train service to Newcastle. It was the company Christmas weekend and we had dinner reservations in the evening, but before that, we had a football score to settle – an annual game of football with our sister company. They beat us 7-5 last Christmas, but I wasn't with the company back then, so you know, obviously.

So we took off at 8:45am from Derby and arrived in Newcastle just before 12pm. Kick off was scheduled for 1pm, so we rushed to Gateshead Stadium, home of Conference side Gateshead FC, with a capacity of just over 7000. Sadly with our lousy fanbase, we played in front of exactly 0 fans.

Anyway, not important. We won the game 6-4, I scored 2 goals, blah blah. We met the rest of our colleagues at the hotel and made our way to the restaurant in the evening.

Later in the evening, with pretty much everyone half-tipsy and some completely drunk, I got word that one of our senior managers had booked a VIP spot in one of Newcastle's famous nightclubs, Tup Tup and that my name was on the +8 list. We made our way to the club about 11pm and just as I was walking in, Tulisa walked through, brushing my shoulder as she walked past. She looks much prettier on the tele, but that is to be expected I suppose. Though I didn't recognise him at first, she came with Newcastle RB Danny Simpson.

The security guards ushered us through to our spot and this is where I bumped into Chalobah and his mates. I went for a handshake and a neat tap on the shoulder to say 'you alright son?'. He went for one of those awkward shoulder hugs. I asked him how things were going at Watford, to which Chalobah replied that it’s going better than he expected and being the youth team captain at Chelsea initially won him a lot of brownie points with Zola but he still had to prove himself like everyone else.

He also said that JT calls him regularly to check up on his progress and that the two had spoken just a few days earlier. He then went on to talk about RDM and the US tour, which he was very excited about. Jamal Blackman was mentioned a lot in various stories. Weird but funny stories.

We parted ways the same way we met, with an awkward handshake, shoulder hug.
