While the Mark Clattenburg case drags on, it appears that the other racism row the club was involved in last week is already beginning to come to a close. A 28-year-old Chelsea supporter, named as Gavin Kirkham, was photographed making what appeared to be a racist gesture towards Manchester United forward Danny Welbeck during the clubs' League Cup clash on Wednesday, now detectives from Scotland Yard have confirmed that the man has been arrested for a public order offence:
He was arrested on suspicion of a racially aggravated Section 4a Public Order Act offence and currently remains in custody at the west London police station. Inquiries continue.

The evidence would seem to indicate that this is an open and shut case rather than a he said/she said situation, so I can't imagine that case will last very long. It's difficult to see Mr. Kirkham mounting a coherent defence either, and hopefully when the courts are done with him Chelsea will ban him from Stamford Bridge.
