Registas and Destroyers - Defensive Mids - Now and Next

OK here's the fourth of the positional break downs, I have altered the content a bit on this one, again it takes it's basis from 'Chelsea: The Transfer Market Story 2013 and beyond' .

Defensive Midfield

Two really important positions where we're weak atm. We have to rely on Oriol Romeu (who RDM won't use) in rotation with Jon Obi Mikel and Frank Lampard, while Oscar, Paulo Ferreira, Ryan Bertrand and perhaps David Luiz and Marko Marin if we're desperate can chip in, we're really lacking in the central/defensive midfield area (I thought we were a bit underdone with Michael Essien, Raul Meireles, Romeu and Mikel).

There no real defensive mids in the youth ranks, save perhaps for Chalobah playing out of position.

Just on Defensive Midfielders read these articles, they really exposure the necessity of having plenty of good ones...
Defensive Midfielders essential for success;http://footballspeak.com/...07/31/Essential-For-Success.aspx

I particularly like ‘the defensive midfield position evolved, incorporating both ‘destroyers' and ‘registas' or deep-lying playmakers.

A strong, modern regista requires many of the attributes previously described for a good libero: some defensive awareness, good reading of the game, a large range of passing and the ability to dictate play';http://www.sabotagetimes.com/...e-rise-of-the-modern-libero/

So who can fix this issue...I think these are some lads we could use;

- Moussa Sissoko; a box-to-box midfield weapon has great stamina and also attacks, a new Michael Essien, wanted by Juventus, Newcastle, PSG etc

-Etienne Capoue; Sissoko's partner in crime at Toulouse, a better defender than Sissoko but less attacking, also wanted by Barca and others

-David Alaba; part time defensive mid, part time left back, with Cole possibly going we could use him alongside Bertrand and van Anholt as well as Romeu and Mikel

-Emre Can; young Bayern Munich star, a great talent but like Romeu an unpolished gem

-Danilo Pereira; Danilo Luís Hélio Pereira, currently on loan at Roda from Parma, compared with Patrick Vieira and known as 'the Portuguese Lung' for his stamina

-Yann M'Vila; a troubled star, but undoubtedly a star defensive midfielder, known as the bulldog for his tenacity

-Abdelaziz Barrada; the poor man's Moussa Sissoko, well possibly the rich man's Sissoko as Real Madrid are apparently interested in him

-Vadis Odjidja-Ofoe; Club Brugge's main midfield weapon, failed loan early this season to Everton had nothing to do with his on field skills, Belgian

-Fernando; a powerful ball winner, he'd be a huge asset, only Porto's prickliness is an issue, Brazilian

-Marouane Fellaini; the complete defensive midfielder, but perhaps not quite with the potential as the likes of Sissoko, Belgian

-Paulinho; young and a rising star but unproven in Europe and wanted by many an Italian club, Brazil

-Adrien Rabiot-Provost; very young but a real weapon, might be hard to drag away from PSG

-my favourite Arturo Vidal (assuming as i think is safe that Yaya Toure isn't available); an awesome player and he'd be a huge asset, but he'll be hard to pry from Juventus

-Fernandinho; we've seen what he can do for Shaktar, at the upper edge age wise but certainly good, Brazilian

-Radja Nainggolan; the Belgian has been a breakout star in Italy this past season, but I'm not sure if he's for Chelsea

-Victor Wanyama and McDonald Mariga; the Kenyan defensive midfielders and brothers will both likely be for sale in January, Wanyama is the better of the two, but we do like signing brothers

-Sven and Lars Bender; the German equivalent of the above pair

Personally I'd go for Arturo Vidal and Yann M'Vila or Etienne Capoue and Moussa Sissoko as pairings to join Oriol Romeu and Jon Obi Mikel.
