I along with lots of fans was very excited when the club signed Romeu and Paizon. We paid about 5 million for them and we were told we had poached the best talent from 2 of the oldest most talent producing teams in the world. Paizon was from Sao Paulo which had developed such talents as Luis Fabiano and Kaka who lit the world alight and more recently Lucas and Oscar who both were sold for huge amounts of money, with Lucas famously being too expensive for manchester united. The story was that Paizon was so good that he wouldnt sign a new contract and so we roman jumped in and we got the next kaka on the cheap with rave reviews from everyone at chelsea. Strangely Paizon had never actually played for Sao Paulo and no one even knew who he was but the consensus was that he must be amazing.
With Romeu we got a player from the famous barca youth school who was only signing because of barca's packed midfield and to help with their money problems. He was so valued by barcelona that they insisted on a buy back clause and chelsea so keen that they accepted.
These players were meant to set chelsea alight.
From watching the match yesterday this hasn't happened. Romeu was far too nervous as a defensive midfielder and his nerves literally cost us a goal when he lost the ball after a routine pass from cech. Paizon also had a poor game where he was full of nerves and kept on losing the ball and making bad passes. Infact things got so bad that they had to be subbed inorder for the big guns to win us the match. This wasnt a one off as both Paizon and Romeu have been very unimpressive when they have played recently.
So what went wrong? Things are especially serious as Romeu is expected to take over in Mikal's possistion during the african cup of nations and this season piazon was meant to become a squad player and be able to cover Hazard, Mata or Oscar.
Personally I think Paizon came over to England too quickly or he should have been sent on loan straight away so he could mature away from the spotlight and come into chelsea's team more mature and without any nerves. Unfortunately chelsea didnt really have any option as juventus wanted him and paizon prefers staying in london where he can eat his brazilian food instead of living in some tiny town on loan in a small club (I think his girlfriend is with him too and she likes london too!). I think RDM should tell him the benefits of going on loan and send him somewhere small and pretty where he would like. Its no use him going to a club where he doesnt play.
Romeu is a different story as he has class but is too nervy and slow. He also stays with mata who is our best player and someone we dont want to upset. Ideally we'd send him on loan but we need him as cover for mikal. I think his problem is that AVB put him in the deep-end too quickly and then dropped him suddenly which would have really effected his confidence. As someone mentioned on twitter romeu cant be brought in at the end of a game for 10 minutes to help his confidence as he will probably concede a goal so RDM should do a torres and work on his confidence and give him some reserve matches. Or abramovich could tell him that if he doesnt get his act together he'll be out. But eitherway I dont see roman trusting romeu and i think we'll get a new DM in jan.
