Lampard picks up slight injury, to be assessed for England duty

According to Roberto di Matteo, Frank Lampard's withdrawal in the second half of Chelsea's 4-1 win against Norwich City wasn't simply a tactical switch:

Lampard felt a little problem behind his knee so as a precaution we took him off. We'll assess him tomorrow and see [if he will report for England duty].

The vice-captain came off in the 67th minute for Ramires with Chelsea completely in control of the game, and I wouldn't be entirely shocked if this is simply some manoeuvring to keep him at Cobham rather than going on international duty with England, who aren't exactly on the best of terms with the club at the moment. We'll see in short order, I suppose.

Assuming that the problem isn't too severe -- I don't think he'll be missing any time with the Blues -- it was a very good day for Lampard, who scored the winner from open play to as he continues his assault on Chelsea's all-time scorer list. He's in third place, four behind Kerry Dixon, and he's only 13 behind Bobby Tambling's all-time record of 202. Not bad going from a midfielder.
