John Terry will remain the captain of Chelsea FC

Paul Gilham

The club confirmed on Saturday that John Terry will remain the captain after his four game suspension is served.

There's an important story that was a bit lost in the shuffle with the victory over Tottenham yesterday, but we'll make sure to touch on it today. Bruce Buck and Ron Gourlay spoke with Talksport radio yesterday, and they confirmed that John Terry will remain the captain of Chelsea when his suspension is over. Via the official Chelsea website:

"John will continue to be captain of the club. We are not going to suspend him for any additional matches to the four the FA have suspended him for, but we have taken disciplinary action we think is firm and appropriate."

Personally, I have no problem with this decision. Then again, I don't really think a captain is necessary in the current climate of club football, so I can't say I'd have been overly fussed in either scenario.

In all likelihood, we'll see Terry wearing the armband again on Tuesday when Chelsea head to the Ukraine to face Shakhtar Donetsk. Terry's ban only applies to domestic games, so he'll likely keep sharp by featuring in both of Chelsea's Champions League ties during his suspension. He missed the match with Tottenham yesterday, and the remainder of his suspension will include both games against Manchester United next week and the league game against Swansea.
