Football / Soccer in the US - a question for Americans

Hi there,

I've become a regular reader of this site over the last few months thanks to the number of daily updates, the great in-depth tactical analysis, and especially the hot man love for David Luiz.

Obviously I've noticed the American influence on here and I find it very interesting. I live in London and grew up in Fulham, I certainly wish I could visit Stamford Bridge more than 2 or 3 times a season like I presently do - but I imagine it's a lot harder supporting a team who are based thousands of miles away!

I have a long running argument with one of my mates who believes that the USA will be the best football team in the world within the next few decades. I argue that a country with such a deeply ingrained culture of American football, baseball, basketball etc will never become as football mad as the rest of the world, and so will never reach the hights it could do.

So I suppose my question is, what is the situation with Football in America right now? Is it noticably growing in popularity? I know it is played in high schools and by girls but are more people playing it than before? Are there more people following European football?

Also, how did you get into football and why do you support Chelsea?

So many questions! If anyone wants to I look forward very much to your reply.

Cheers,

Matt
